Answers to the most common questions about the request, the selection and the day of the event.

Do I need to be an experienced trail runner?
No: the run is non-competitive and there are two groups — 10.8 km for the more experienced runners, 9.4 km for the second group — formed by pace. The minimum requirement is being able to comfortably run 7–8 km on the road and having some uphill running experience.
Which route should I choose?
Short: 9.4 km, 237 m elevation gain, 67% tarmac, ~1h–1h20: for those who usually run for about an hour. Long: 10.8 km, 349 m elevation gain, 42% off-road, ~1h10–1h30: for those used to climbs. They share the start, the finish and the Via Valle Vevera climb (0.7 km at 8%); they split at altitude. You can decide on the morning, at check-in.
How are participants selected?
Applications close on Thursday 17 September at 14:00. Places are limited and requests are accepted in order of arrival: if you are accepted you will receive an email with the instructions to confirm your participation. The Sylan 2 test kit is guaranteed in order of confirmation. Confirm your details by Thursday 17 September at 15:30.
When does the event take place?
The event takes place on Saturday 19 September 2026, meeting and check-in at VIETTI, Corso Repubblica 38, Arona, from 09:30; the trail run starts at 10:15 and the event officially closes at 15:00. The full programme of the day is in section 03.
How do the Sylan 2 fitting and test work?
In the request you will indicate your size and preferred fit. Confirmed participants will be handed a Sylan 2 in the most suitable available size for the test during the event. The shoes are an Arc'teryx test kit: you wear them for the run and hand them back at the finish, at check-out. Bring your own shoes for after the run.
What should I bring?
A trail running water flask (mandatory), running clothes suited to the weather conditions and your own shoes for after the run. The Arc'teryx Sylan 2 for the test are handed out at check-in and handed back at check-out, at the finish.
What if the weather is bad?
The guides assess the conditions and, if necessary, adapt the route or the programme. Every update reaches participants by email.
Is there a refreshment?
Yes: a welcome breakfast at check-in, a refreshment point along the route and, back at VIETTI, a recovery drink and snacks, then lunch for all participants with a DJ set and time to socialise. In the final details form you can indicate your dietary profile and allergies.
How will I know if I have been selected?
You will receive an acceptance email with the link to the final details form: final size, dietary profile and emergency contact. Confirm your details by Thursday 17 September at 15:30: after that time the eve-of-event reminder is no longer sent.
Where do we meet?
The meeting point is VIETTI, Corso Repubblica 38, Arona, from 09:30. Check-in, welcome breakfast, presentation and briefing take place here before the start, and this is where you come back for recovery, lunch and the close.
Who is the event for?
For anyone who runs with some regularity: the requirement is being able to comfortably run 7–8 km on the road and having some uphill running experience. No trail racing experience is needed.
Which Sylan 2 sizes are available?
The test kit comes in fixed UK sizes, in men's and women's fits: the full list is in the table in section 01. Sizes are limited: if yours runs out we will let you know before the event and you can take part with your own shoes.
How is safety organised?
Two local guides, four pacers and a medical lead accompany the groups along the whole route. A safety briefing is held before the start.
What do participants receive?
The Arc'teryx Sylan 2 test on the route — the shoes are an Arc'teryx test kit and are handed back at the finish — an Arc'teryx cap as a gift and the lunch box.
