Prada was founded in Milan in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino as Fratelli Prada, a leather goods shop in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and the house is still based in the city. From the 1970s, under Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, it moved from leather into waterproof nylon, starting with backpacks; since 2020 Miuccia Prada has shared the creative direction with Raf Simons.
At VIETTI, a family boutique since 1952 in Arona, on Lake Maggiore, the Prada selection is for women and men and is built around ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories from the current season: loafers in brushed leather and suede, Speedrock and Monte Carlo sneakers, shirts, knitwear in virgin wool and cashmere, and Re-Nylon across outerwear, shoulder bags, hats and pouches. Saffiano leather appears on wallets, card holders and belts; among the handbags are the Bonnie and the Speedrock. The selection is updated with every delivery.
Prada ready-to-wear is listed in Italian sizes, shoes in Italian or UK sizes and belts in centimetres; the cut is mostly regular, relaxed or slim on some shirts and knitwear, as stated on each product page together with the composition and the country of manufacture declared by the brand. Bags and wallets are shown in the sizes the house makes them in.
